Aquarius is a fixed air sign ruled by Saturn and Uranus. People are
often surprised to discover that this is not a water sign, as it is represented
by the water bearer. But this is the symbol of the water of higher consciousness
being brought to humanity, and it is the air signs that rule our brain
functions. Where Gemini rules the lower mind and it's day-to-day activities,
this sign rules the computer of the brain and all it's higher activities
including intuition. That is why although Pluto rules the occult and all
things hidden, it is Aquarius that rules the study of the occult, bringing
the hidden into the light. It is this understanding that is represented
by the water. Lincoln, Edison. F.D.R., and trail blazing astrologer Evangeline
Adams were all Aquarians. They each changed the world greatly in their
own way.
Aquarians are forward thinking people, living in the future more than
the past. They can be detached and impersonal, a difficult trait for anyone
too emotional. They are rebellious and hate any type of confinement. They
are independent and creative, sometimes approaching genius, but they can
be self destructive and mentally cruel if not evolved. Marriage and unions
of all sorts are tough for these free thinkers. If Aquarius is on the
7th house cusp of relationships in a chart that naïve will have a
hard time marrying as well.
Because this sign has two rulers, the limiting Saturn and the radical
Uranus, they must learn to use both seemingly diametrically opposing energies.
Uranus demands freedom from anything that has been holding the individual
back from growth. Saturn hates change. That is why Aquarians will often
stay in a bad situation for a long time only to leave seemingly instantly.
Of course they have been planning this for a long time, but the conflicting
feelings must be sorted through, and that takes time. Once the decision
is made there is virtually no changing back.
In the body this sign rules the ankles, the blood's flow into the heart
and certain glands including the pituitary gland responsible for sudden
growth, as everything with this sign is sudden. Anything that has outlived
its usefulness in our lives is the enemy of this sign. The need for change
in life is constant, and this sign knows that truth better than any other.
Love with this radical sign may be an exciting, though unstable affair.
The need for freedom from confinement makes it difficult for the Aquarian
to commit. The best way to deal with them is to give them all the freedom
they require. Then sit back and wait for them to come to you. Once they
feel un-tethered it will be easier for them to show affection. One thing
you can be sure of is that life with this rebellious energy will never
be boring.
