ISSUE # 138
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
Well, this is the period weÕve been looking at for some time. I canÕt guarantee that weÕre going to see some tremendous events right on the aspects, but we sure have a bunch of doozys.
This month will begin with a Solar Eclipse.
Then we have Saturn entering Libra and opposing Uranus for the last of 5 passes;
Jupiter square Pluto TWO times (due to the retrograde motion of Jupiter) within 2 weeks;
and Mars conjunct Saturn, square Pluto and opposite Uranus.
And all of these aspects create squares and oppositions to AmericaÕs Venus, ruler of the (Koch) 6th house of health and work, the 10th house of career and worldly status, and the 11th house of long term goals, hopes and wishes and friends. In other words; this sure donÕt look like a great year for yÕall. (Sorry, IÕve been watching the cooking channel again.)
The Saturn - Uranus opposition has much to do with power struggles, the reversal of power and the redistribution of wealth. The last time Saturn opposes Uranus was 1965-7. It resulted in a huge escalation in the Vietnam War; the entitlement programs; and the end of the Johnson presidency. The transit took so much out of him that he simply could not run again. It took until 1982, almost 16 years, to make more than a marginal new high and begin a new bull market. And that period was a cupcake compared to what we are facing now. No matter what the next decade holds for us, we as individuals and as a collective must find ways to enjoy life and to redefine our needs.
Jupiter retrogrades on July 23rd, and then squares Pluto the next day. Historically, when Jupiter retrogrades it represents a top for the stock market about 80% of the time. With the square to Pluto following immediately after I must assume this will be a very bad week for the markets. The stocks represent our collective wealth as much as anything can. Pluto rules all things held jointly, especially financial matters. When Pluto squares Saturn, the stock markets go down. When Pluto squares Jupiter, they can go in either direction, but usually exacerbating the prevailing one. In other words, if the markets have been going up they will go up faster. If they have been going downÉ well, you get the point.
When Jupiter opposes Saturn as it will August 16th 2010, historically the markets also go down. There are very few bullish signals, although a good trader could cherry-pick and find some strong investments opportunities.
Any of the major issues we have been watching, including the Gulf, the financial markets, the governmental infighting, to name a few, could be blown out of proportion now with the combination of transits. Remember, Jupiter does not always bring you good things. Usually it brings you more – of anything. For example:
All of the major issues we have been discussing are precariously perched on the side of an historic precipice. Our financial markets, the Gulf catastrophe, the recent insane Supreme Court decisions on election finances, gun control, etc. are all leading up to an internal power struggle the likes of which this country has only seen a few times. As we approach the changes that will be necessary to truly enter the Aquarian Age, the collective works in unconscious ways to further that event, including breaking down any situations, businesses or governments that are preventing that transition. We will see the reversal of power in a number of situations throughout the world, as we did in 1965-7, the last time Saturn opposes Uranus. This will set off a number of nationÕs charts as well as that of some national leaders. Mr. Obama has Venus at one and a half degrees Cancer. This wonÕt pass without affecting his life severely.
Pluto rules oil, as I have proven through the years in my lectures and predictions. With Pluto about to square Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Mars, I donÕt think we are about to get any good news from the Gulf. The entire population of migrating birds in the Western Hemisphere, approximately one billion, stops in the Gulf of Mexico on their journey. ONE BILLION BIRDS. The government is paying farmers in the Gulf States to flood their fields north of the Gulf in the hopes that the birds will land there instead. One can pray, but do you think a species that has stopped in the same place for 25,000 years will suddenly make a detour because we put up a ŌRest AreaĶ sign somewhere else? Oh what schmucks these mortals be?
The New Moon falls on Sunday July 11th at 3:40 P.M. EST at 19 degrees Cancer 24 minutes and it is a solar eclipse. This is the most domestic oriented of signs, and until the Sun enters Leo on July 22nd you will be more apt to spend time with those you consider family. Emotions run hot under Cancer energy, and your feelings may be more present than usual, especially if this New Moon sets off your chart. Issues of the family and home will be most prominent. Cancer also rules the past and memories, and you may find yourself swimming in a pool of reminiscence.
The events surrounding the back to back eclipses this past month are leading us to the Great T-square later this July. Throughout history eclipses have been known as the harbinger of difficult times and even disasters. The relationship between the Sun and the Moon is perhaps the most important in all astrology. Certainly it tells us a great deal about the character of the person as well as the connection between the parents. So when these two create aspects in the sky this too is an important event. We call the conjunct a New Moon, and we call the opposition a Full Moon. When one eclipses, or blocks out the power of the other, this shows an imbalance between the two sides of the entity, which will lead to a difficult period of readjustments. We are in such a period.
VENUS TRINES PLUTO:
On Tuesday July 13th at 1:54 P.M. EST this trine completes. This is the only non-lunar aspect the first quarter of this month. But donÕt worry, the later weeks will more than make up for this rather peaceful moment. This transit can be intense, especially in relationship issues, but because it is a trine it is more malleable and can be proactively used in a positive way.
SATURN ENTERS LIBRA:
On Wednesday July 21st at 11:09 A.M. EST Saturn enters the sign of its exaltation. Normally this would be a welcome event in a world so disoriented as ours is today, as this transit will usually bring some balance and stability. But once Saturn enters this cardinal air sign it will oppose Uranus and Jupiter and square Pluto. This combination has the potential to be quite upsetting. Saturn will also square Venus and Jupiter in AmericaÕs chart late August and September, which should result in a continuation of the deterioration of our financial markets, as well as further problems in the Gulf, with our food supply etc. No, we are not out of the woods yet.
THE SUN ENTERS LEO:
On Thursday July 22nd at 6:21 P.M. EST we enter the fixed part of summer. Following a July with multiple triple digit degree days, lord knows whatÕs in store for us in the dog days of global warming. This is the most romantic time of the year when the Sun travels through the sign of games, romance and childish behavior. This is the best time for a romantic get-away. Send the kids to grandmaÕs. For anyone who has ever been in love, or something like it, you know why this sign rules acting. Is anybody not playing a role when they fall in love?
THE SUN SEXTILES SATURN:
Also on Thursday July 22nd at 6:21 P.M. EST this very useful transit completes. This is a good day for all paperwork and detail oriented tasks. Try to clear out any unfinished things that are clogging your desk or computer. People will be more direct and realistic, and this is a good day to discuss any important project or plan.
On Friday July 23rd at 8:03 A.M. EST the planet of expansion begins its backward motion. As I said in the authorÕs notes, this is the top of the stock market about 80% of the time. It may have happened a few days ago, or a few days from now, but I suggest either sitting things out for a while or shorting the markets. For the next few months expansion will take place on the internal plane more than the external, and this isnÕt particularly good for business affairs. This doesnÕt mean that there wonÕt be growth in certain areas of life, there is always development going on somewhere, but that any external expansion will be more representative of the inner changes the individual or entity is going through. Any real growth that goes on in the society now will be working towards expanding our consciousness, not our portfolios.
JUPITER SQUARES PLUTO:
On Saturday July 24th at 9:51 P.M. EST this could be heaven or this could be hell. This is a very intense square that will bring up issues of power and growth. In the best of times this represents moments of great stress in the world, which can be resolved through creative initiative, or through violent encounters. With it coming so close to the Aquarian Full Moon and the Saturn – Uranus opposition I think it would be wise to avoid any confrontations, if at all possible. The potentially explosive energies mixed together this month could result in disruptive events. How these aspects fall in your own chart will have much to do with whether this is a month of success or a useless battle for meaningless supremacy.
This monthÕs lunar peak occurs on Sunday July 25th at 9:37 P.M. EST at 3 degrees Aquarius 00 minutes. This is the most impulsive, explosive and potentially corrosive (I ran out of rhymes) of signs, and with Jupiter in square to Pluto, and Saturn about to oppose Uranus we should be in for a really interesting time the rest of this month. I would advise a good deal of caution for the few days surrounding this Full Moon, and frankly for the rest of this month. Most transits pass without creating a serious event in our lives or in the world, and that could certainly be the case here. But donÕt bet on it. There are too many aspects hitting within a short period of time, all leading up to the grand cross with AmericaÕs Venus and Jupiter.
MERCURY OPPOSES NEPTUNE:
On Monday July 26th at 6:04 A.M. EST a cloud of confusion will cover your communications. Be absolutely sure you are understood and that you understand what others are saying. It is easy to make the wrong assumption or just to be so distracted that you miss something important. Use extra caution while traveling.
THE SUN TRINES JUPITER:
Also on Monday July 26th at 7:30 A.M. EST normally this is a very optimistic and enthusiastic transit. It favors travel and sociable activities. But it is surrounded by much more powerful aspects that will overwhelm this. Still, if it hits your chart just right it will certainly make this day more pleasant. At least for today try to be expansive in your thoughts and plans, and more hopeful in your outlook. Sometimes it only takes a few hours to rejuvenate your fantasies.
SATURN OPPOSES URANUS:
Also on Monday July 26th at 1:05 P.M. EST the final pass of this devastating aspect completes. Just to remind you, the first pass was on Election Day 2008, which was preceded by a stock market crash. The 2nd pass was February 5th 2009, which was immediately followed by the 2nd and more devastating stock market crash. The 3rd pass on September 15th 2009 rallied the stocks, and the 4th pass on April 26th 2010 once again collapsed them. Now you know what a yo-yo feels like. This last pass will culminate the situation, but in no way does this mean that the depression is over.
As I said in the authorÕs notes: This opposition has much to do with power struggles, the reversal of power and the redistribution of wealth. We will see the results throughout the world over the next few years. Nations will be redefined and political alliances will shift with a sense of redesigning the world. Hold on to your seats, itÕs going to be a bumpy ride.
MERCURY ENTERS VIRGO:
On Tuesday July 27th at 5:43 P.M. EST Mercury enters one of the signs it rules. While this planet generally does quite well here, there is a tendency to be overly critical and to get lost in the details, thus missing the bigger picture. Keep an open mind and try not to nit-pick too much. This can be a very useful transit, especially if it is traveling through one of your mental houses, i.e. 3rd, 6th, 7th, 11th.
MARS ENTERS LIBRA:
On Thursday July 29th at 7:47 P.M. EST Mars enters the sign of its detriment, as it rules the opposite sign of Aries. The god of war doesnÕt do that well here. There is a tendency to be wishy-washy, something that does not suit the planet of ego. It is hard to get decisions made while this transit is going on. There just isnÕt enough aggression to make things happen, so they seem to just lay there and dangle in a sort of Libra passive-aggressive way. Of course when Mars enters this cardinal sign it will set off the Great T-Square I have been talking about for months. Mars will conjunct Saturn, oppose Uranus and Jupiter, and square Pluto. Libra or not, this should be enough energy to kick off some events in the world.
MERCURY TRINES PLUTO:
On Friday July 30th at 6:03 A.M. EST it will be easier to get to the bottom of things. If there is an important conversation waiting to happen, this is a great time to have it. Our collective ability to dig deeply into issues may come in very handy while all the surrounding disruptive energy is occurring. I hope they make use of it.
MARS OPPOSES URANUS:
Also on Friday July 30th at 9:32 A.M. EST this very dangerous and explosive transit completes. Caution is most certainly called for, especially if this sets off sensitive points in your chart. Any anger that is suppressed under this transit will be that much more difficult to rein in once it escapes. If you are feeling tension, you must let it out. This is true for the individual as well as for the collective. Just how we as a group will release this pressure is the real question here. Astrologers know full well that while it is the outer planets that announce the underlying changes that need to be made, it is the inner, personal planets, such as Mars, that are always the triggers to the events that will ultimately create those changes. Mars is setting off the Great T-square of Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus. Because Mars is about to conjunct Saturn, the most repressive of planets, as well, I think we will see much repressed energy, and the potential for a serious implosion.
MARS CONJUNCTS SATURN:
On Saturday July 31st at 4:09 A.M. EST this incredibly repressive transit will complete. Under the best of circumstances this can be very frustrating and annoying as it puts pressure on the ego of the individual or the world. But with all the other transits whacking us now all I can say is: try to keep a sense of humor and stay out of harmÕs way. There is no reason why these aspects should cause you personal angst as long as you use caution and common sense. What happens in the world is beyond our control. Fix what you can and accept what you canÕt.
JUPITER SQUARES PLUTO:
On Tuesday August 3rd at 4:03 A.M. EST this square returns. Because Jupiter has just retrograded we are lucky (?) enough to see this twice within a few days. With Mars about to square Pluto tomorrow this should continue the energy of the past few days. Remember, energy is energy; it is neither positive or negative, only easy and difficult. If you can use all of this force that is floating around you to your advantage, you could make some incredible things happen this month. But do stay out of trouble.
MARS SQUARES PLUTO:
On Wednesday August 4th at 12:56 A.M. EST the last of these intense transits this month completes. There should be a lull in the action once this has passed, but the effects may remain for some time. ItÕs kind of like throwing a rock into a lake. The rock disappears rather quickly, but the wake continues for some time. The seeds of change have been planted, and now they will grow their sprouts. We will have to contend with the aftermath of the events that have occurred since this great energy began on November 5th 2008 for many years to come.
VENUS ENTERS LIBRA:
On Friday August 6th at 11:48 P.M. EST Venus will enter one of the signs it rules. There will be a settling down in personal relationships for a few weeks. This is a good time to begin a new relationship or to solidify an existing one. Hopefully this transit will help smooth over some of the remarkably intense energies we have been through. However, while Venus transits are pleasant and rejuvenating, they are not as powerful as the outer planets. Still, you should look towards your close associations and love connections for support and comfort.
VENUS OPPOSES URANUS:
On Saturday August 7th at 4:00 A.M. EST love may take a strange turn. Sudden infatuations are possible if this sets off your chart. If a new relationship begins now it will certainly be exciting, but probably not terribly stable. It is a day to seek out the unusual and not stick to your regular routine. Do something adventurous or go to an amusement park. This can be a reversal in certain commodity markets, especially cotton.
VENUS CONJUNCTS SATURN:
On Sunday August 8th at 1:25 P.M. EST this wet-blanket will complete. This is a day to review and test your relationships to see which are working out and which are not. If this hits your chart just so, it may produce feelings of isolation or loneliness. Of course, if Saturn is hitting your chart now anyway you are probably feeling some of that already. Now it is Venus that is setting off the Great T-square, and its energy is quite different from Mars. We may see a lot of breakups and divorces this year. The need to break free from the past is very strong for the collective and the individual.
VENUS OPPOSES JUPITER:
On Monday August 9th at 7:42 P.M. EST this very pleasant and enjoyable transit comes along. This can produce feelings of lethargy or laziness, and usually I would warn against giving in to such feelings. However, after the past few weeks I would be quite happy to just lay around and relax. This is an evening to enjoy yourself and perhaps indulge a bit. But do be careful as there is a tendency to overdo almost everything, and that certainly includes food and drink. Romance will be more expansive after yesterdayÕs Venus conjunct Saturn. You should be feeling some optimism and more enthusiasm for your relationship.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Monday August 9th at 11:08 P.M. EST at 17 degrees Leo 25 minutes. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, donÕt try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just wonÕt work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you donÕt, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this ŌdeadĶ energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
