ISSUE # 104
AN ASTROLOGICAL NEWSLETTER
As the volatility continues in the stock markets, and the Feds scratch their heads trying to figure out how to blow up a busted balloon, the recession sneaks into more and more American households. Jobs are beginning to decline, consumer confidence is the lowest it’s been in years, and the politicians (in both parties) run around with their heads up their primaries.
Saturn has entered Virgo, where it will reside for the next 2 ˝ years. Virgo rules service and the health fields. When Saturn falls in Virgo or the 6th house in an individual’s chart it implies that everything gained must come through hard work and service to others. There tend to be issues involving the health or the person’s attitude towards their body. We as a collective can expect these same issues to come to the forefront. The failing health care industry will be scrutinized during this period, and attempts will be made to improve it. How successful they are has much to do with who is in office and how much control can be wrested away from big business. Time will tell.
Saturn in Virgo will also demand a reckoning in our financial markets. The world economy is about to have an audit. Unfortunately the end result will be as it always is. The poor will be poor, the middle class will get screwed and the rich will go on a buying spree. But if things get bad enough maybe, just maybe, there will be a change and we will stop being allowing ourselves to be herded around unquestioningly. Or as the old saying goes: let’s gather up the sheep and get the flock out of here.
There are many indicators that we are heading into a recession. You can read about it in every newspaper. Historically the Saturn – Neptune opposition brings inflation and recession at the same time. That is exactly what we are experiencing. The residue of that Saturn – Neptune opposition is just starting to become a reality as the full brunt of the overvalued housing market, the overextended credit crisis and the unchecked chicanery implemented by the banking industry becomes common knowledge. Neptune tends to hide things from view. Saturn has fallen victim to its powers and for the past year or more we have not seen things clearly. Now that Saturn has left Leo and entered Virgo, reality will be seen without the Neptunian fog.
On October 9th right on the Dark of the Moon, Jupiter will square Uranus for the third time this year. During the first two passes Saturn was in trine to Jupiter giving support to this erratic and at times, unsettling aspect. This last pass will not have Saturn in support, and we just might see a crash. The suddenness of this aspect is certainly something to watch out for.
The one harbinger that puts the icing on the cake, however, is the all-out attempt to finally complete the troubled 2nd Avenue subway. They have been trying to build this thing since 1925. Every time they have tried has been quickly followed by financial or national disasters. Why would this time be different? And who honestly believes that if this war on terror continues for any length of time, that the subways will still be in use in ten years. With forty dollars worth of explosives any group of people could put the entire system out of commission. Look what happened last month when there was a heavy rain storm. The subways were shut down – all of them. New York was virtually crippled. And these morons want to build more of them. I predict that the New York City subway system will eventually be filled in with dirt or sold as luxury condos, right in the heart of Manhattan.
The New Moon falls on Tuesday September 11th at 8:44 A.M. EST at 18 degrees Virgo 25 minutes, and it is a solar eclipse. Virgo is a critical sign that pays more attention to details than most. This month we will be scrutinizing things and crunching the numbers. With Saturn having just entered this sign the world will be a different place for the next 2 ˝ years. This New Moon heralds that event, and may represent the beginning of a financial reckoning that has only been hinted at in the past few months. Because this is the anniversary of that horrific date we are paying closer attention. There are several aspects that mirror what was happening on that day in 2001. The ‘coincidence’ that the eclipse happens almost exactly to the minute when the attacks occurred does make one pause. It would be prudent to avoid dangerous situations today, especially in the morning. I wouldn’t get take a subway today on a bet.
MERCURY SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Thursday September 13th at 6:43 A.M. EST this positive aspect completes. Communications of all sorts should be active and easy. There is an optimistic feeling in the air, so try to take advantage of it. Any difficulties you may be having with others can be eased through conversation.
THE SUN SQUARES MARS:
On Monday September 17th at 4:50 P.M. EST this potentially difficult aspect occurs. Egos will be raw and people can be easily offended. Disagreements and disputes of all sorts will be common, so try to avoid direct confrontations, if possible. Pent up anger could lead to accidents, so if this is hitting your charts and making you feel frustrated, find a release for the tension and it will pass without creating problems.
MERCURY TRINES NEPTUNE:
On Tuesday September18th at 10:02 P.M. EST this creative aspect occurs. The hours leading up to this will be inspirational for some of us. If you are involved in any sort of creative or artistic project this could be a very fulfilling moment. Conversations will be more ethereal and thus less based in reality. So don’t believe everything you are told. Wait a day and see if things still seems true.
THE SUN SQUARES PLUTO:
On Wednesday September 19th at 3:56 P.M. EST this intense aspect completes. This aspect follows the Sun – Mars squares on Monday and precedes the Mars – Pluto opposition of Friday, so this could be a difficult few days. If this hits a sensitive point in your chart you could have trouble with others, especially those in a position of authority. Pluto rules things that are hidden, so there may be something buried under the surface. This could manifest as a psychological problem or trouble in the subways. There is no difference between the internal and the external – it is all a matter of illusion.
MARS OPPOSES PLUTO:
On Friday September 21st at 4:33 A.M. EST the last of this series of troubling aspects completes. I would suggest caution in your activities. Try to keep an eye on your ego, and avoid bruising someone else’s. There will be a lot of pent up energy in the air all week, and it will be easy to get caught up in it. There may be some event we are contending with on the world stage.
VENUS OPPOSES NEPTUNE:
Also on Friday September 21st at 4:05 P.M. EST this creative and confusing aspect will come along. This certainly will be an artistic moment during which those who can should tap into the collective pool and pick up some inspiration. In your personal lives you can expect uncertainty and misdirection, especially in love affairs. If you accept the spiritual side of things you will have no problems with this energy. But if you insist on “reality”, and can not see another truth, you may find it difficult to get your work done. It passes quickly, and within a few hours you should be able to focus. This is not a good day to go shopping if you are on a budget. Also, be careful of alcohol or in the ingestion of any drugs. You may react in an unexpected way.
THE SUN ENTERS LIBRA:
On Sunday September 23rd at 5:52 A.M. EST Autumn officially begins. Each of the cardinal signs begins each of the four seasons. Relationships will be in the forefront of our lives. Pay attention to what others are telling you this month and you can improve your partnerships significantly. You will become more aware of any problems in a marriage, business partnership or other significant relationships.
THE FULL MOON:
This month’s lunar peak falls on Wednesday September 26th at 3:45 P.M. EST at 3 degrees Aries 20 minutes. Egos will be in the forefront, and people will be easily offended. This Mars ruled sign emits a lot of energy, so I would suggest caution and restraint today. If you use this energy to your advantage you can accomplish a great deal. But if that energy is misdirected it could lead to conflicts and disagreements. This has the potential to be an explosive or violent aspect. Try to avoid dangerous situations.
MERCURY ENTERS SCORPIO:
On Thursday September 27th at 1:18 P.M. EST the planet of thoughts and communications enters this most secretive of signs. People will tend to hold things back and not show you all there is. Take everything with a grain of salt. For the next few weeks it will be more difficult to ferret out the truth. However, there will be a more pronounced sense of depth to conversations, as we will all be digging deeper. Superficial answers to our questions will not satisfy.
MARS ENTERS CANCER:
On Friday September 28th at 7:54 P.M. EST the god of war enters this water sign. Throughout history more major sea battles have been fought with Mars in this sign that rules the oceans than with any other configuration. Water represents our feelings, so you can expect “sea” battles in your own life. This is a difficult place for Mars, as it tends to respond emotionally and impulsively. Try to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
MERCURY SEXTILES SATURN:
On Monday October 1st at 2:16 A.M. EST this useful transit completes. There will be a sense of stability and structure about your thoughts and speech. This is a good time to take care of any paper work or to engage in important conversations. Your ideas will be clear and concise. Just remember that Mars will be in Cancer all month, and some of us will be responding from a strictly emotional point of view, not an intellectual one. So plan accordingly.
VENUS TRINES PLUTO:
On Wednesday October 3rd at 9:12 A.M. EST this trine comes along. Issues of love and possessions will be intense, but not confrontational. Most of us will be seeking a deeper understanding of things. Relationships may be passionate, and there could be some question about who controls things. But if you are able to express your feelings you can get to the bottom of your issues more easily than at other times.
VENUS ENTERS VIRGO:
On Monday October 8th at 2:53 A.M. EST the goddess of love enters this most critical of signs. People will tend to be a bit picky and unyielding for the next few weeks. Try not to fight over the little things, although that is exactly what this energy tends to lead to. Don’t get lost in the details and lose track of the bigger picture.
MARS SEXTILES SATURN:
Also on Monday October 8th at 11:45 P.M. EST this very useful aspect comes along. If you can focus on your work you will get a lot done. The entrance of Venus in Virgo is very much a work-oriented aspect, and the combination should allow you to accomplish what you must. This isn’t a very exciting or energetic Mars aspect, but it will allow you to work long hours and keep a steady point of view.
THE SUN SEXTILES JUPITER:
On Tuesday October 9th at 12:05 A.M. EST this wonderful transit completes. People will be optimistic and outgoing. Expansion is in the air, and you should attempt to enlarge your perspective in any manner you choose. Social activities are favored, as is travel. Anything that expands your consciousness will serve you well.
JUPITER SQUARES URANUS:
Also on Tuesday October 9th at 2:24 P.M. EST this most unpredictable transit completes. This could manifest as any number of events. I am keeping a close eye on the stock market, as this often represents a sudden and unexpected action. This is the third time we have seen this aspect in the past year. The first two times Saturn was in trine to Jupiter giving support to the changes. This time it is not. It is certainly possible that we could see a “correction” in the markets. This is also the Dark of the Moon, which represents the end of matters. This could be a very ominous moment.
DARK OF THE MOON:
The next New Moon falls on Thursday October 11th at 7:22 P.M. EST. The day or two leading up to it will be a particularly low energy period. If you tend to be emotional this may be a very trying time each month. I have found that people with prominent moons or a Cancer Sun, Moon or ascendant respond to the cycles of the moon more intensely than others. Spend this time finishing up anything that is incomplete, don’t try to initiate new projects on a waning moon, it just won’t work out. Once the New Moon hits you begin new projects or attempt a new approach to an existing problem. If you have been living in a situation or involved in a relationship that is intolerable or has outlived its usefulness this would be the proper time to move on with your life. If you have been working on a project that is almost complete but you seem to lack the energy for the finality, you must push during these low energy days to end the matter once and for all. If you don’t, when the New Moon arrives it will bring this “dead” energy along with it and conflict with the newer force being presented. Each month we are offered a chance to clean house, so to speak.
Note: All aspects are most powerful and effective as they apply. Once the transit has completed, its force is lessened. The further it separates the weaker it becomes.
Below is a list of times this month when the Moon is Void of Course and neither important decisions nor purchases should be made during these periods. The Void of Course Moon is a time when we should try to center ourselves and deal with spiritual matters not materialistic ones. Any decisions made on the VC Moon will not turn out the way we had expected.
The Moon is Void of Course from the time it makes its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign. For example, if the Moon squares Mars at 27 degrees Aries and then has no more aspects until it enters Taurus it will be Void of Course for three degrees or about 6 hours. The aspects used are the conjunction, sextile, square, trine, and opposition.
All times are Eastern Daylight:
